Riverbend Orchards is a licensed propagator of six honeyberry (haskap) cultivars originating from the University of Saskatchewan.

Every June, we propagate 7000 young plants of honeyberry (haskap) from softwood cuttings in our 1500 square foot greenhouse.  These cuttings are taken from mature plants in our established orchard and rooted under mist. Our finished young plants feature a healthy root system without deformations and are ready to be field planted or grown-on in containers.

Our young plants of haskap, cherry, gooseberry and currant ship efficiently across North America (even to Alaska!) and have received rave reviews from customers. They offer a much larger root mass than similarly-priced, tissue-cultured plants and are properly timed for the prairie climate. Access our wholesale pricing by clicking on the pdf link below. Call us or e-mail for more information.

My walk-through inspection of our Haskap (Honeyber My walk-through inspection of our Haskap (Honeyberry) rows today revealed lots of developing fruit. The secret is to lift a branch and look under those fresh, green leaves. Now we will watch as the June sunshine fills and ripens these berries over the next 3-4 weeks. We’ll let you know when they’re ready! #manitobafarm #prairiefruitgrowers #canadianberries

We are always amazed at the resilience of this native prairie species, waiting patiently to flower until spring truly arrives. Plan to visit us in Portage la Prairie this July for haskap, saskatoons and tart cherries.

It’s perhaps the most beautiful week of the year - not to mention an intoxicating fragrance that stops you in your tracks. Three cheers for prairie fruit trees!
Without the efforts of these helpers today, there Without the efforts of these helpers today, there would be very few haskap berries to pick in July. Haskap must be cross-pollinated for fruit set. That means planting multiple cultivars in your field and ensuring ample pollinating insects on-site to do the heavy lifting.#haskapberryfarm #prairiefruitgrowers #manitobafarmers
What a difference one year makes! Last year at thi What a difference one year makes! Last year at this time our saskatoons had already set fruit, this year they have not even started to flower. This spring’s late flowering means a later date for fruit maturity - likely the week of July 12. Fortunately it does look like some heat is in the forecast 😊
